Box Score Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach) each scored two goals, but The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team could not stop a second half comeback against Oneonta as they fell 11-9 on Saturday afternoon in the first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup of the season.
Brockport (5-2, 0-1 SUNYACC) struck first with a goal just over two minutes into play. McKeon scored off of a pass from Liz Algie (Adams, NY/South Jefferson). Oneonta (6-3, 1-0 SUNYAC) quickly answered back with a tying goal.
McKeon netted her second goal of the game mid-way through the first half off of another great pass from Algie. Schuber followed up with a goal at 21:24 to push Brockport's lead to three.
The Red Dragons closed out the first half with a goal to trail the Golden Eagles 4-2 heading into halftime.
During the second half, Oneonta scored in one minute to cut Brockport's lead to one goal.
Tassone quickly answered back with two goals only 51 seconds apart. Tassone's goals helped Brockport push back out to a three point lead.
With 15 minutes left in the game, Oneonta tied the game back up and just over two minutes later took their first lead of the game. The Red Dragons scored another goal at 20:12.
Brockport managed to score two goals in the final three minutes of regulation. Schuber tallied a man-down goal and Wall tied things up, sending the game into overtime with a free position goal.
However, in overtime the Golden Eagles could not find the goal they needed. Oneonta scored two more goals to take the lead again and hold onto the win. Brockport had a few opportunities in the closing minutes, but could not finish.
Algie led scoring with three points off of three assists. Besides the two goals each from Schuber, Tassone, Wall and McKeon, Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) also tallied a goal.
Remle Harr (Farmington, NY/Fairport) recorded the loss in the goal. Harr played all 66:00 and made nine saves.
Brockport returns to action on Tuesday for a home SUNYAC matchup against Buffalo State at 4 pm.
