Box Score

Sophomore John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored four goals with two in each half for The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team but it was not enough as the Golden Eagles dropped an 18-11 decision to the country's number one ranked team, RIT, Wednesday afternoon in wintery conditions on the RIT Turf Field in Rochester.

Brockport (1-1) opened the scoring as Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) found the back of the net less than two minutes into the contest.

The Tigers (3-0) scored the next six goals and held the 6-1 lead after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Brockport trimmed the lead scoring three of the first four goals of the period with Countryman scoring twice and Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) notching his fifth goal of the season making the score 7-4.

RIT answered with another run scoring four consecutive goals over the next seven minutes for an 11-4 advantage. Austin and freshman Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored back-to-back goals near the end of the first half cutting the lead to 11-6 but the Tigers scored with just four seconds left in the half to take a 12-6 lead into the shortened intermission.

Due to the harsh weather conditions, the teams started the third quarter after a short rest and RIT opened the period with two goals before Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) scored the lone Golden Eagle goal in the period. The Tigers added two more before the end of the third quarter to make it a 16-7 lead.

In the fourth quarter, RIT scored a man up goal four minutes into the session before Brockport finished the game with four of the final five goals. Countryman had two goals in the stretch while Giudice scored one and freshman Casey Cleary (Cortland, NY/Homer) scored his first career goal.

Countryman finished with four points with his four goals while Giudice added four points with two goals and two assists. Austin had two goals and an assist and freshman Brendan Fitzgerald (Baiting Hallow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) chipped in two assists for the Golden Eagles.

Freshman goalie Conor Nowak (Lakeview, NY/Eden) made 10 saves in the first three quarters and junior Shane Hutchins (Albany, NY/Albany Academy) registered five saves in the final quarter.
