Box Score Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) scored four goals for The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team, but the Golden Eagles could not hold onto an early lead and dropped a 16-14 decision in a State University of New York Athletic Conference game against Buffalo State on Tuesday night under the lights in Brockport.
Brockport (5-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play. Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) got things going for the Golden Eagles with the first goal of the game, unassisted at 27:44. A little over a minute later, Megan LeGro (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) ripped a shot past the Bengals goalkeeper to score a man-down goal. Scordo tallied Brockport's third goal of the run at 23:37 and Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) capped off the run, capitalizing on a free position shot at 23:03.
Buffalo State (7-2, 2-0 SUNYAC) did not back down after the Golden Eagles run. The Bengals answered Brockport's 4-0 run with a 4-0 run of their own to tie the game up with 12:25 to play in the first half.
Wall gave the Golden Eagles back their lead with at 11:38, but Buffalo State once again scored to bring things back to a tie just 30 seconds later. Just over a minute later, the Bengals added another goal and took their first lead of the game.
The Golden Eagles finished the closing minutes of the half on a 3-1 rally to take a 9-7 lead into halftime. Tassone scored goals off of a free position opportunity and off a great pass from Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), while Scordo finished off a great pass from Liz Algie (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) with 40 seconds left on the clock.
The Bengals wasted little time getting on the board in the second half. Buffalo State scored a goal to cut Brockport's lead to one just 40 seconds into play.
Brockport put together another run that started at 23:20. Goals from Scordo, Schuber and Hailey Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) put the Golden Eagles up 13-9 with 18:38 to play.
However, Buffalo State put together a tremendous offensive effort and played stifling defense in the final 15 minutes of the game. The Bengals were able to tally a 6-0 run in eight minutes to take the lead and seal the eventual win.
With the game tied 14-14, goalkeeper Remle Harr (Farmington, NY/Fairport) made a fantastic save to keep the Bengals from going ahead, but the Buffalo State offense took advantage of a free position shot and took the lead for good.
Brockport had a chance to tie things up at 15, but the Buffalo State goalkeeper made an excellent save to keep the Bengals ahead. Buffalo State scored the final goal of the game with 8:17 left to play.
The Golden Eagles fought back, but could not come up with what they needed offensively in the final minutes of the game.
Scordo led the offense with four goals, while Algie tallied four assists. Tassone and Wall each recorded three goals. Wall also picked up a team-high five ground balls. Boronczyk scored two goals, while LeGro and Schuber each added one. Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach)) recorded a team-high nine draw controls.
Harr recorded the loss in net, finishing with three saves in 59:00.
Brockport returns to action on Friday, April 4 for a rescheduled home game against Nazareth at 4 pm.
