Junior Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) went 4-for-5 from the plate, hit two home runs and scored five runs to help lead The College at Brockport softball team to a 2-0 start in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with two wins on the road against Oswego in Liverpool, NY on Friday afternoon.

In game one, the Golden Eagles used four homeruns to help power them to a 9-7 win. Two batters later, Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) stepped and ripped a homerun out to center field to give Brockport a 2-0 lead.

Brockport followed up in the second inning with another run. Ferchen once again got things going with another solid bunt. On the same play, Gabrielle Rivers (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) took advantage of a throwing error from the first baseman and scored.

Oswego cut the Golden Eagles lead to one run in the bottom of the second inning. The Lakers took advantage of a Brockport fielding error and a passed ball.

Gabriella Baltzley (Lawton, PA/Elk Lake) opened up the game for Brockport in the top of the third. With runners on second and third, Baltzley bombed a hit out to left field for a three-run home run.

Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) continued to keep the Brockport bats hot, scoring the third homerun of the game. Rosenbarker's shot out to center field scored Dumas and herself.

The Lakers nearly made a comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning. Oswego's first batter stepped up and hit a homerun to right field. The Lakers then took advantage of a Brockport fielding error and followed it up with a double to left field. The next batter hit a great bunt that helped two Lakers score.

Heading into the top of the sixth, Brockport only led by one run. Neither team managed runs in the sixth inning.

In the last at bats, Schell added a fourth Brockport homerun. Schell ripped a one-run homer out to center field to put the Golden Eagles up 9-7.

Despite making an error, the Brockport defense held Oswego scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to seal their first SUNYAC win.

Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego) started out in the circle for the Golden Eagles. Kolenda pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) relieved Kolenda and earned the win. Berger allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

In game two, Brockport recorded two more home runs and used 10 runs off of 10 hits to capture a 10-7 win to end the day.

The Lakers were the first to get on the scoreboard this time, taking a one run lead in the bottom of the first.

The Golden Eagles answered back with two runs to take over the lead. In Rosenbarker's first at bat, she cranked out her second home run of the day with a shot out to left field. Brockport's second run came after two fielding errors from Oswego and a walk. Ferchen's walk allowed Schell to come home.

Neither team managed to score any runs in the third and fourth innings.

Dumas ripped a single down the right field line in the top of the fifth to score Ferchen and take a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brockport opened up their lead to six runs. Ferchen was walked with bases loaded, scoring Schell for the first run of the inning. Cheyenne Bumpus (Munnsville, NY/Stockbridge Valley) scored on the next play off of a wild pitch. After a pitching change, Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit a grounder to the second baseman, but helped Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) to reach home. Dumas ripped another single, this time down the left field line, scoring Ferchen.

The Lakers, not ready to give up, rallied in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up at seven. Oswego took advantage of a Brockport throwing error and some big hits to score six runs.

Heading into the seventh tied, Schell came up with a huge hit, recording her second home run of the day. Later in the inning, Ferchen continued to stump the Oswego defense with her bunt. Despite being thrown out at second, Proper and Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) scored.

To close out the game, the Brockport defense once again held the Lakers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh.
