Box Score Senior Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) scored six goals and added an assist to lead The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team to a 22-13 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win over New Paltz on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon in Brockport.
Brockport (8-4, 2-3) used a key 9-0 run with three goals from Zartman to open up the second half and take control of the game.
Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach) opened up the game for the Golden Eagles, scoring the first goal of the matchup just 58 seconds into play. Zartman tallied her first goal of the game less than three minutes off of a pass from Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa). The Golden Eagles had control of the ball for four minutes in their offensive zone, but the New Paltz (4-5, 1-3 SUNYAC) defense was suffocating and Brockport could not find another goal in that time.
The Hawks quickly tied things up at the 20 minute mark with two back-to-back free position goals. New Paltz added two more unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead at 19:34.
A goal from Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) tied the game back up with just over 15 minutes to play in the first half. The game remained close until the final two minutes of the half as the Golden Eagles finished on a 3-0 run to take an 11-8 lead into halftime. Wall, Zartman and Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) all tallied unassisted goals on the run.
In the second half, Brockport continued their strong offensive play that they ended the first half with. The Golden Eagles offense lit up for nine straight unanswered goals in the first 12:31 of play.
Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson)started off the run with a goal just 33 seconds into the second half. Zartman scored three goals, Molly Fitzsimmons (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) tallied her first goals of the season, as did Lauren Hartmann (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Tassone and Megan LeGro (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) also recorded goals on the run.
New Paltz attempted to make another run in the same fashion as the first half, but the Brockport defense managed to adjust and hold the Hawks offense back. The closest New Paltz would get in the second half was eight goals at 10:28 and 3:03.
To close out the game, Katie Curran (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) scored a goal with 2:33 left to play.
The Golden Eagles outshot new Paltz 45-22 and forced the Hawks to make 23 turnovers. The Golden Eagles also held a 22-15 advantage in draw controls.
Zartman led the Golden Eagles on offense with seven points. Wall followed right behind Zartman with six points off of three goals and three assists. Both Tassone and Algie tallied three points, while Schuber, Scordo, Curran and Hartmann each had two points. Ally Wolf (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), Fitzsimmons and LeGro all finished with one point each.
In goal, Remle Harr (Farmington, NY/Fairport) earned the win. Harr played all 60:00 and made six saves.
Brockport returns to action at 4 pm on Tuesday against Geneseo in the final home game of the season.
