Box Score 2 Senior Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) ripped a home run and The College at Brockport softball team's defense played strong for two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) wins against New Paltz on Monday afternoon in Brockport. The Golden Eagles took the first game 4-3 and followed up with a 1-0 win in the second.
In game one, the Golden Eagles got out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning. Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) started off the inning with a single through the left side, but was caught stealing second. The next batter, Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit a solid single out to center field. Dumas followed up with a bomb to left center field for a two-run home run.
New Paltz remained hitless until the top of the fourth inning. The Hawks tied the game up, 2-2, with two big hits.
With the game still tied heading into the sixth inning, New Paltz's first batter stepped up and nailed a home run out to center field, giving the Hawks a one run advantage. The Golden Eagle defense finished out the inning strong to keep New Paltz from taking a larger lead.
Brockport answered back in the bottom of the inning, taking back the lead. Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) started off the inning with a single to left field. Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) followed up with a double, ripped down the left field line to score pinch runner, Gabriel Rivers (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee). Schell scored an unearned run two batters later after a throwing error from the third baseman.
The Golden Eagle defense held the Hawks in the top of the seventh inning to seal the win. Despite a throwing error and New Paltz runners on second and third, Brockport kept the Hawks from scoring. Schell made a great double play to end the inning as she caught a line drive and then stepped on second for the third out.
Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego) earned the win in the circle. In seven innings, Kolenda allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Dumas and Schell led the way offensively in game one. Schell finished 2-for-3 from the plate with one run and one RBI, while Dumas finished 1-for-3 from the plate with one run and two RBI's. Harris went 2-for-3 with a run.
Game two saw the bats go quiet for both teams. Heading into the sixth inning, there were only three hits between the teams.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Rosenbarker had the game-winning hit with a single to left field that scored Ferchen.
New Paltz had not answer for the Golden Eagles in the top of the seventh. Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) ended the game with a strikeout to seal the win.
Kibling recorded the win in the circle. In seven innings, she earned a shutout, only allowing four hits, two walks and striking out three batters.
Offensively, Rosenbarker led the way in game two, finishing 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI. Ferchen and Harris were the only two other Golden Eagles to record hits in the game. Ferchen went 1-for-3 and scored a run, while Harris also finished 1-for-3.
Brockport returns to action on Wednesday at 3:00 pm for a non-conference double header against St. John Fisher.
