Box Score

Senior Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) and freshman Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) both scored two goals for The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team, but a slow first half did not help the Golden Eagles in the 21-8 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss to #7 Cortland on Saturday afternoon in the final home game of the 2014 season.

Cortland (12-3, 5-0 SUNYAC) jumped out to a quick lead, scoring the first goal of the game just 2:53 seconds into the first period. The Red Dragons added two more goals in five minutes.

Brissette got Brockport (4-8, 1-4 SUNYAC) on the scoreboard at 5:08 with an unassisted goal to stop the Cortland run.

The Red Dragons added another goal before the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Cortland added four more goals to their lead before the Golden Eagles could strike again.

Giudice scored Brockport's second goal of the game with 2:20 left to play in the first half off of a pass from Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity Pawling).

The Red Dragons managed to add another goal to their lead with 58 seconds on the clock to head into halftime up 9-2.

Giudice tallied his second goal of the game early in the third quarter with an unassisted goal at 12:02.

Cortland continued to pour on the offensive pressure, pushing its lead out to 12 goals at 5:48.

In the final quarter of the game, the Golden Eagles tallied four goals but it was too late for a comeback as the Red Dragons continued to hit their shots.

Brissette and Giudice led the Golden Eagles on offense with two goals each, while Brendan Fitzgerald (Bating Hollow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) added two points off of a goal and an assist. Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott), Casey Cleary (Cortland, NY/Homer) and John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) each tallied one goal.

Conor Nowak (Lakeview, NY/Eden) recorded the loss in goal. Nowak played the first 30:00 of the game, allowing nine goals and making seven saves. Shane Hutchins (Albany, NY/Albany Academy) played 15:00, allowing seven goals and three saves. Alex Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) also played 15:00 while allowing five goals and making one save.

Brockport returns to action for their final game of the regular season at 1:00 pm on Saturday for a SUNYAC matchup at Plattsburgh.
