Sophomore Amanda Yuhas (Hamburg, NY/Eden) led The College at Brockport Softball team with a pair of hits in the opener as the Golden Eagles swept a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader from Fredonia Monday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport.

Brockport (19-7 Overall, 8-4 SUNYAC) scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to post an 8-0 run-rule victory in the opener and put together a 6-2 victory for the nightcap win to complete the sweep.

In the first game, Brockport score one run in the first and took a 2-0 lead in the fourth before exploding for six runs in the fifth to end the game with an eight-run lead.

In the first, Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit a two-out single to right centerfield to score Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) from second for the early Brockport lead.

Starter Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego) cruised through the first two innings before aggravating an arm injury and leaving the game in the third inning. Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) came in and continued to shut down the Fredonia (8-15, 5-9) batters striking out six of the first eight batters she faced.

In the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles pulled off a delayed double steal as Gabriella Baltzley (Lawton, PA/Elk Lake) swiped second and Jordan Bush (Redwood, NY/Alexandria) waited before taking off for home with the steal.

After Berger put together a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth, the Brockport bats came alive for six runs in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Harris drew a one out walk and Schell was hit by pitch to put two runners on. Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) walked with two outs to load the bases. Brockport followed with three consecutive singles as Berger, Yuhas and Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) all recorded hits to score four runners.

After Proper stole second to put runners on second and third, Gabrielle Rivers (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) doubled to right centerfield to score both runners and give Brockport the eight-run lead and the win.

In the nightcap, Brockport scored three in the first and added three more in the fifth before Fredonia scored its first runs of the day in the sixth with a pair of runs for the final score.

In the first, Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Harris each singled to start the inning. With runners on the corners, Schell doubled to score both for the early lead. Schell eventually scored on a throwing error for the 3-0 lead.

In the fifth, the same players were involved in the scoring again as Brockport added three more runs. Ferchen singled down the line just inside third base and Harris followed with a run-scoring double. Schell followed with her eighth home run of the season with a line drive over the left centerfield fence for a 6-0 Brockport advantage.

Fredonia scored two unearned runs in the sixth to trim the lead to four at 6-2 but could not get any closer.

Ferchen, Harris and Schell contributed six of the eight hits for Brockport in game two. Yuhas was the lone Golden Eagle with more than a hit in the opener.
