Box Score Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity Pawling), Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge), Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) each scored three points, but The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team could not overcome an early deficit and fell 18-11 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at Plattsburgh to close out the 2014 season on Saturday afternoon.
Plattsburgh (11-5, 3-2 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter of the game. The Cardinals also played stingy defense not allowing Brockport (4-9, 1-5 SUNYAC) a single shot on goal the entire quarter. With no points from the Golden Eagles, Plattsburgh took advantage of a six goal lead heading into the second quarter.
Brissette got Brockport on the board just over three minutes into the second half on a man-up opportunity. John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) added another goal for the Golden Eagles off a pass from Brissette at 7:16 to cut the Cardinals lead to five.
The Cardinals answered the Golden Eagles two quick goals with a 3-0 run to end the half and take a comfortable 10-2 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Plattsburgh was able to jump on the board quickly again, scoring a man-up goal just 1:46 into play and adding another goal a few minutes later.
Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) and R. Austin both scored goals for Brockport in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles still found themselves down by nine.
Brockport pushed for a comeback in the fourth quarter, but came up short. The Golden Eagles combined for seven goals in the final 15:00 of play. Brissette opened up things, scoring a goal in the first 22 seconds of the quarter. A. Austin followed up with a goal only 15 seconds later.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals were able to put together a 4-0 run in the middle of the quarter to keep a decent lead on the Golden Eagles.
R. Austin started a Brockport run that scored five goals in the final six minutes of the game, but the Cardinals had gotten too far out in front of the Golden Eagles.
Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) closed out scoring in the game, tallying a goal with 1:31 left in the game.
Giudice, Brissette, and R. Austin all scored two goals and had one assist for Brockport, while A. Austin tallied two assists and recorded one goal. Mark Robinson (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell), Cook, Countryman and Sullivan each scored one goal.
Shane Hutchins (Albany, NY/Albany Academy) recorded the loss in goal, playing 33:32 and making six saves. Alex Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) saw 15:00 in net, making four saves, while Conor Nowak (Lakeview, NY/Eden) played for 11:28 and made 1 save.
