Senior Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit 4-for-7 from the plate as The College at Brockport softball team went 1-1 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference doubleheader at Potsdam on Sunday afternoon. The Bears came from behind for a 9-4 win in the first game, but the Golden Eagles bounced back for a 9-0 six-inning win in the second game.

In game one, the first two innings were quiet for both teams. Brockport (22-8, 11-5 SUNYAC) used four big hits in the top of the third to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) started things off for the Golden Eagles with a single. Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) grounded out on the next at bat, but helped advance Harris to second. Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) helped Brockport get the first run on the board with a single that helped score Harris. Dumas stepped up after and ripped a double to score Rosenbarker. The final runs of the inning came after Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) drilled a home run out to right center field.

Potsdam (5-23, 4-12 SUNYAC) stayed scoreless in the next two innings, but made a huge comeback in the bottom of the fifth. The Bears took advantage of two Golden Eagle errors and recorded six hits to score eight runs and take an 8-4 lead. The Bears added a ninth run in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Brockport had runners on first and third, but the Potsdam defense managed to keep the Golden Eagles from scoring to hold onto their 9-4 lead for the win.

Proper led the Golden Eagles on offense, finishing 2-for-4 from the plate with one run and two RBI's. Rosenbarker also finished 2-for-4 from the plate, and tallied one run and one RBI. Dumas hit 2-for-3, scoring one run and one RBI. Harris scored one run and finished 2-for-4 from the plate.

Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) recorded the loss in the circle. Berger pitched the first 4.1 innings of the game, allowing eight runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) came in to pitch the final 1.2 innings of the game and allowed one run on four hits with one walk.

Once again, game two saw both teams with quiet offenses in the first few innings. The Golden Eagles headed into the fourth inning with only one hit, while the Bear's had recorded two and the score remained tied at zero.

Dumas helped Brockport get on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Cheyenne Bumpus (Munnsville, NY/Stockbridge Valley) started the inning off with a single. Schell followed up with a sacrifice bunt to advance Bumpus to second. Two batters later, Dumas hit a single that helped Bumpus round home and give the Golden Eagles the lead.

Brockport's big inning came in the top of the fifth. The Golden Eagles put together six big hits to help them score five runs and take a 6-0 lead. Gabrielle Rivers (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) ripped a double that got Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) home to start off the scoring run. Four batters later, Schell nailed another double for two RBI's. Rosenbarker followed Schell's hit with a single, scoring Bumpus for another run. After a pause for a pitching change, Schell scored the final run of the inning taking advantage of a wild pitch from Potsdam.

The Bears continued to struggle on offense, not having an answer for the Golden Eagles six run lead.

In the top of the sixth, Brockport added three more runs off of five hits. Lazzaro started off the inning with a single and Amanda Yuhas (Hamburg, NY/Eden) followed behind with a single of her own. Rivers grounded out on the next play, but helped to advance the runners to second and third. A single from Harris on the next at bat scored Lazzaro and another Potsdam wild pitch helped Yuhas score. Schell hit a single two batters after to score Harris for the final run of the game.

The Brockport defense held tough in the bottom of the sixth, causing the Bears to go three up, three down and end the game.

On offense, Lazzaro finished 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored, while Schell was also 2-for-3 with one run and three RBI's. Harris, Rosenbarker and Dumas all went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Harris also added two runs scored.

Kibling earned the shutout win in the circle. In six innings she allowed zero runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Brockport returns to action on at home against Buffalo State on Monday at 3 pm for the final SUNYAC game of the regular season.
