Women’s Lacrosse Eliminated in First Round

The Golden Eagles lost to Oneonta 13-9 in the SUNYAC Tournament

The College at Brockport women's lacrosse season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the No. 5 seed Golden Eagles fell 13-9 to No. 4 Oneonta at the Red Dragons' field in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament. Brockport closes out the season with a 10-7 overall record.

Senior Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) scored four goals for the Golden Eagles, finishing her career fifth all-time with 126 goals.

Brockport traded goals with the Red Dragons to open up the game as Zartman tallied two early points. With 17:41 to play in the first half, the teams were tied 2-2.

Oneonta took a comfortable lead heading into halftime after a 5-0 run that started midway through the quarter.

The Golden Eagles struggled in the first half to hold on to the ball, making 17 turnovers. Oneonta also played stingy defense, allowing Brockport only four shots on goal in the first 30 minutes.

In the second half, the Red Dragons pushed their lead out to seven with two quick goals.

Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored a goal at 8:34 that go Brockport started on a 4-0 run. Tassone followed up her first goal just about eight minutes later with another one. Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) tallied a goal less than 30 seconds after and Zartman added the fourth at 19:44.

With under 10 minutes to play, the Golden Eagles found themselves only down by three goals. However, Oneonta powered through another scoring run. The Red Dragons scored four unanswered goals to push their lead back out to seven.

Brockport made a push in the final few minutes of the game, scoring three quick goals, but could not overcome the seven goal deficit.

Zartman led the way on offense with four goals, while Tassone tallied two goals and an assist. Wall, Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) and Ciara McKeon (West Hampton, NY/West Hampton Beach) were the other Golden Eagle point scorers. On defense, Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scooped up four ground balls and three draw controls.

Remle Harr (Farmington, NY/Fairport) recorded the loss in goal. She played all 60:00 and made a career-high, season best 13 saves.
