Senior Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) stepped up offensively, scoring six goals and adding an assist as The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team earned their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win with a 19-11 victory over Potsdam at home on Saturday afternoon.

Zartman wasted little time getting # 16 Brockport (7-3, 1-2 SUNYAC) on the board. The senior forward snuck a shot past the Potsdam (3-5, 0-2) goalkeeper just 1:25 into play. Four minutes later, Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach) struck with a goal off of a pass from Liz Algie (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) to give Brockport a two goal lead.

The Bears answered back, cutting the Golden Eagles lead down to one with a goal at 19:43. However, Zartman quickly turned things around with a goal at 19:09 giving Brockport back its two goal lead. Algie added a goal for the Golden Eagles less than a minute later.

Brockport put together a key 5-0 run halfway through the first half that kept them in control. Zartman got things started on the run with a goal at 13:41. Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) who assisted on Zartman's goal, followed with a goal of her own off of a pass from Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas). Zartman and Wall hooked up again for another goal, assist combo to put the Golden Eagles ahead by five. Hailey Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) kept things rolling for Brockport with a goal off of a pass from Ally Wolf (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West). Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) capped off the run with a goal at 6:35.

Potsdam took advantage of a Brockport yellow card to score just their third goal of the game with 5:34 to play in the half.

In the closing minutes of the first half, the Golden Eagles finished on a 3-1 run, taking a 12-4 lead into halftime. Zartman once again got things going with a goal off of a pass from Wolf. Alige followed up with a goal and Wall finished on a man-up goal with 2:55 on the clock. Potsdam finished the half scoring a goal with just 15 seconds to play.

The Golden Eagles were the first to strike in the second half. Boronczyk ripped a shot past the Bears goalkeeper off of a great pass from Zartman at 26:54.

Despite being down 13-4, Potsdam continued to fight back. For a stretch of nearly 20 minutes, the Bears outscored Brockport 6-2. With 8:08 left to play, Potsdam trailed Brockport 15-10 and seemed to be gaining momentum.

However, Zartman stepped up again for the Golden Eagles with her sixth goal of the game at 5:21 and shifted the momentum back into Brockport's favor.

Wall found herself in front of a wide open net after a great pass from Schuber and slipped it right in for a goal at 2:01.

Potsdam managed one last goal at 1:09, but Brockport quickly responded and scored two goals in the last 49 seconds. Nina Tassone netted the first off a Wall pass and Katie Curran (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) put a strong finish on a free position shot, putting Brockport up 19-11 with seven seconds to play.

Zartman led the way on offense with seven points on six goals and one assist. Wall finished the game with six points off of three goals and three assists. Boronczyk recorded two goals and two assists, while Algie tallied two goals and one assist. Schuber had three assists and Wolf added two. Other point scorers included McKeon (2), Curran (1) and Tassone (1). Defensivley, Colleen Hathway (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) led the way with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

Remle Harr (Farmington, NY/Fairport) was credited with the win. Harr played all 60:00 in goal and finished the game with four saves.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday for a 4 pm road game at SUNYAC rival #2 Cortland.
