Box Score Freshman Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and junior Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) each scored goals early in the third quarter and sophomore John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored late in the quarter to give The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team a 6-3 lead. Geneseo battled back with three fourth quarter goals to tie the game and scored 2:47 into the first overtime period for a 7-6 victory Wednesday afternoon on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport.
Geneseo (3-6 Overall, 1-2 SUNYAC) scored first five minutes into the game but Brockport (4-6, 1-2) answered back with less than two minutes to play in the opening period to tie the score at 1-1. Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) worked his way from behind the goal for a clear shot and beat the Geneseo goalie with a shot to the top corner.
In the second quarter, Giudice made it a 2-1 Brockport lead 1:06 into the period as he circled around from behind the goal and scored bouncing a shot past the Geneseo goalie.
The teams traded goals in the last five minutes of the first half with Cook scoring with a low shot with 1:56 left to give the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead heading into the halftime intermission.
The third quarter was all Brockport. The Golden Eagles scored twice in the opening minutes as Cook scored a man-up goal 1:11 into the period and Giudice scored just 15 seconds later for a 5-2 lead.
Geneseo trimmed the lead two minutes later but Countryman's goal at the 4:41 mark of the period made it a 6-3 Brockport advantage.
The Knights scored twice in a span of 56seconds four minutes into the final quarter to cut the lead to 6-5.
A late pushing penalty – the only call of the game against the Golden Eagles – allowed Geneseo to score a man-up goal with 30 seconds left in regulation to knot the score at 6-6 and send the game into overtime.
Brockport won the opening faceoff as Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids. MI/Forest Hills Eastern) won his 10 faceoff of the game. A turnover in the offensive zone allowed Geneseo to take over possession and clear the ball to the Knights offensive zone.
A pass from behind the goal to the right side of freshman Conor Nowak (Lakeview, NY/Eden) to an open Geneseo player who fired a hard shot over the shoulder of Nowak for the game-winner 2:47 into the overtime period.
Cook and Giudice each scored twice while
Riley Austin and Countryman added a goal each.
Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity Pawling),
Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) and
Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) had one assist each. Nowak finished with 10 saves in the Brockport goal.
