Box Score

Sophomore guard Mitch Cote (Rochester, NY/Penfield) pushed The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team to a 84-73 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win over Fredonia on Saturday afternoon in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium located on the campus of Brockport.

Brockport(6-7, 3-3 SUNYAC) shot the ball with excellent precision, using a 51.7% shooting percentage to help best its SUNYAC rival Fredonia. The Golden Eagles held a 47-44 lead at the half and utilized an even stronger second half to lengthen the gap.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a seven point lead in the opening three minutes of the game, before a Brockport timeout and lineup change. Sophomore Jon Carnegie (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) was one of the substitutions and quickly made his presence known by putting Brockport's first points on the board.

Three minutes later Cote passed the ball to Carnegie who dribbled the ball quickly around his defender before elevating for an emphatic dunk. Brockport tied the score with more than 12 minutes remaining when Clifton Lyerly (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) stole Fredonia's ball and quickly scored, tying the game at 17-17. For the next two minutes Brockport and Fredonia traded leads four times. Junior Daniel Aiello (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) put the Golden Eagles on top for good when Lyerly dropped the ball to him in the paint, before he made a layup for the Brockport 24-23 lead.

Every player from both squads entered into the game at some point through the course of the game, which proved to be a deciding factor as the Brockport bench outscored Fredonia's 52-18. In total 31 players saw action on the court Saturday afternoon, 16 Blue Devils and 15 Golden Eagles.

Carnegie scored all 13 of his team leading points in the first half, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor including three triples. Cote added 12 points and five assists as he consistently pushed the tempo for the Golden Eagles offense. Lyerly also scored 12 as he played aggressively, driving to the basket on a consistent basis. Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) was able to pick the pocket of the Blue Devils multiple times, finishing with three steals.

Brockport has three conference games as they travel to Oswego Tuesday and are home Friday and Saturday to face Potsdam and Plattsburgh.
