Box Score

Sophomore Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) pushed The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team to a first half lead but Brockport fell 57-55 in its second State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game of the season against the Hawks in New Paltz.

Brockport and New Paltz were entrenched in a back and forth battle that saw 11 lead changes throughout the game, including a late three pointer from the Hawks that led to their 57-55 victory. The Golden Eagles held a 41-34 rebound advantage but were unable to secure a defensive rebound in the closing seconds which led to a second chance for the Hawks.

Brockport took a 13-10 lead in the 13th minute of action on a three point shot from White. The Hawks followed with a 15-8 run, before White made a layup in the paint while being fouled to cut the New Paltz lead to 25-24.

A little more than a minute later, Patrick Modzelewski (Brooklyn, NY/Msgr. McClancy) hit a three pointer to tie the game at 29-29 with less than three minutes remaining in the half. Next up for Brockport Matthew Smith (East Northport, NY/Northport) made an open three when Jon Carnegie (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) found him outside the arc. Smith then made a last second layup to increase Brockport's lead to 34-29 going into the half.

For much of the second half Modzelewski and Levi Pace (Medina, NY/Medina) kept the Golden Eagles ahead of New Paltz. However the Hawks tied the score with eight minutes remaining in the game at 46-46.

Brockport and New Paltz proceeded to trade the lead several times over the remaining eight minutes of action. New Paltz had possession of the ball in the closing seconds of the game as Brockport held a one point advantage. The Hawks struggled to find an open look and sent a desperation shot up. Hamed Shamseldin (Lawrence, NY/Lawrence) blocked the Hawks layup attempt, but the ball remained in New Paltz's possession as it went out of bounds. The Hawks then drained a three from the corner for the 57-55 lead with five seconds left to play. White raced down the court after he received the inbounds pass but was unable to connect on his quickly attempted shot.

Pace led Brockport with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Modzelewski added 10 points, four steals and eight rebounds as well. Daniel Aiello (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) blocked four New Paltz shots.

The Golden Eagles continue SUNYAC play tomorrow with another road game against the Red Dragons of Oneonta at 2 pm.
