Brockport rolls through SUNYAC weekend, downing Fredonia and Potsdam

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team swept their competition in day two of State University of New York Athletic Conference pool play on Saturday, securing wins over SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Fredonia.

After the weekend's contests, the Golden Eagles improve to a near perfect 20-1 on the year and flawless 6-0 in league-play. The Bears fall to 4-16 in 2015 and 0-6 in the conference while the Blue Devils finished the day with a 16-6 mark on the year and move to 2-2 in SUNYAC play.

In the Golden Eagles first match of the day, Brockport faced off against host Potsdam. The Golden Eagles held little back, downing the Bears in three straight sets to the tune of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-16.

Head coach Steve Pike's squad dominated the match on all accounts, with 30 kills to their opponents 17. The Golden Eagles also racked up 15 service aces in the contest, 27 assists and 41 digs.

Kayla Barber led the charge, with a game-high eight kills to go with an impressive five service aces. Jamie Schlesinger and Brianna Richardson got their hands on three blocks a piece in the outing the to lead in the category.

Noelle Poloncarz orchestrated the Green and Gold offense, dishing out 17 assists in the contest while Kathleen Irwin had a game-high 17 digs in the outing.

In the Golden Eagles second matchup, the Green and Gold needed four sets to bypass the Blue Devils, with a commanding two game lead of 25-9 and 25-12 before Fredonia fought to take the third set 25-23. Brockport got it done in extra points, finishing the fourth set 27-25 to secure the match.

Barber again led the way for the Golden Eagles, swinging for 19 kills with Sam Holdredge and Ashley Capone adding 10 and nine respectively.

Pollencarz notched 41 assists in the game, her third high total this season. Irwin again led the defensive charge, sprawling for a game-high 23 digs, with Holdredge hot on her heals with 22 pick-ups.

The Golden Eagles outmatched the Blue Devils, totaling 51 kills to their opponents 37. The teams were even in blocks, with five a piece, but the Green and Gold crushed the opposition in defense, with 85 digs to Fredoina's 59.

Brockport will be back in action on Oct. 13 when they face off against inter-city rivals St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y.
