Brockport Football: Game Six Preview

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport football team is rounding the corner and heading into the second half of their 2015 season, with their sights set on this week's opponent, No. 24 Ithaca College.

Dan Andrews posted solid numbers on behalf of the Golden Eagles in last weeks contest. For his performance, the junior was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week and named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. Andrews leads the league, and the nation in several categories. The running back is ranked first in the country in rushing touchdowns with 14, and in scoring, with a 19.2 points per game average.

Andrews rushed for 256-yards on 34 carries, with an average of 7.5 yards a rush. He picked up several key rushes, with a 38-yard run and a 47-yard rush both resulting in touchdowns, two of his three scores on the day. The Rochester, N.Y. native also picked up 52-yards receiving on just one catch, for a 308 all-purpose yards.

The Green and Gold squad was unable to secure the win, with a tough 22-19 overtime loss to Utica College. Andrews posted the first two scores to give Brockport the 13-6 lead heading into the half. Utica, powered by the D3football.com special teams Player of the Week, tied the contest on two different occasions to force overtime. In the extra period, the Pioneer kicker did it again, booting the field goal, handing the Golden Eagles a narrow 22-19 loss.

Ithaca College enters the week after a 47-19 road-win over Hartwick College. The lone Bombers loss on the year came at the hands of Utica, a 30-27 overtime defeat a week prior to the Golden Eagle's meeting with the Pioneers. Ithaca has worked its way into the D3football.com top 25, resting in the No.24 spot.

This week's matchup could be a battle of wills, as Brockport leads the league in several offense categories while Ithaca boasts a stout defensive unit. The Golden Eagles lead the Empire 8 in scoring offense (39.6), total offense (455.8), rushing (234.8) and first downs (23.4) while the Bombers lead the conference in defense in both rushing defense (88.0) and passing defense efficiency (95.8).

This is the 55th year anniversary of the two teams first meeting in 1950. Brockport trails the series with an 8-23-2 mark overall. The last Golden Eagle win over the Bombers came in 2004, a 21-20 victory.

This week's battle will take place at Butterfield Stadium in Ithaca, N.Y. with kick off set for 1 p.m.
