BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Women's Volleyball team remained unbeaten at home with two more victories closing out the Golden Eagle Volleyball Invitational in fashionable style with two 3-0 wins on Saturday in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Brockport (25-1 Overall) defeated Alfred in three sets by scores 25-13, 25-18 and 25-13 before closing out the invitational in three straight set victories against Potsdam, beating the Bears 25-17, 25-18 and 25-9.
The Golden Eagles flexed its depth throughout the entire tournament as every healthy player saw action today. Demonstrating a versatile skillset was Jamie Schlesinger as the freshman setter played a variety of roles for the Green and Gold.
Schlesinger did whatever was expected of her throughout the matches, hitting the ball extremely well from the outside, crushing serves, setting the ball when needed and hustling into position for key digs. During the match versus Alfred she finished with six kills (only one error), nine assists, three aces and four digs. Against Potsdam she posted similar numbers with four kills, seven assists, two aces and 14 digs.
DeAnna Ortiz-Whitemore made her Golden Eagle debut on Friday and continued a strong start to her Brockport career as she led the Green and Gold with seven kills against Alfred. She did not see any action versus Potsdam.
Libero Kathleen Irwin had two exceptional matches for Brockport too as she was the only Golden Eagle to top double digit dig totals in both matches. She finished with 28 digs while also proving to be a serviceable weapon from the line collecting seven total aces.
Ashley Capone flew high in the match against Potsdam, utilizing well placed sets from Noelle Poloncarz to tally 11 kills compared to one error while Poloncarz set up 30 successful kills. Capone led the team with a .667 hitting percentage. The senior middle also added a solo block in the contest.
Brianna Richardson posted three blocks in the match versus Potsdam while Sam Holdredge assisted on two. Holdredge contributed nine kills with zero errors.
Brockport travels to New Paltz next weekend and will face Buffalo State Friday before New Paltz and Plattsburgh on Saturday for the final matches of the regular season in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) pool play.
