Andrews Breaks Two Records in Loss to Cortland, 35-21

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Dan Andrews broke two schools record as The College at Brockport football team suffered a 35-21 loss to SUNY Cortland in an Empire 8 game Saturday afternoon.

Brockport (4-3 overall, 2-3 Empire 8) started the game on a high note as Wayne Bonsell connected with Jerry Thompson for a 13-yard gain on its first play.  The Golden Eagles worked their way into Cortland territory and Dan Andrews took over from there, rushing for eight-yards over three plays and capping off the drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown.  Tyler Perna's extra point attempt was good to give Brockport a 7-0 lead with 7:48 remaining in the first quarter.

Andrews broke two Brockport records with his first touchdown, claiming the titles of all-time leader in touchdowns as well as points scored.

Two Cortland (7-1 overall, 5-1 Empire 8) touchdowns found the Golden Eagles in a 14-7 deficit with 1:30 remaining in the first.  Bonsell launched a pass right into the hands of Nate Wilkinson for a massive 49-yard gain.  A few plays later Andrews rushed up the middle for another one-yard touchdown and Perna's extra point kick was true to tie the game at 14-14 as time expired in the first quarter.

The Red Dragons tacked on two touchdowns in the second quarter and another early in the third quarter to extend its lead to 35-14.

Tarik Bennett came up big for the defense, tallying a tackle and a sack on a Cortland drive to force a three and out.  Brockport took over at the Cortland 26-yard line and advanced ten yards after a Thompson reception.  Facing second and goal from the two-yard line, Bonsell connected with Thompson again to cut the score to 35-21.  A scoreless fourth quarter made the final score 35-21.

Brockport's offense rushed for 140-yards with Andrews picking up 122-yards.  Thompson led receivers with five receptions for 49-yards.  Wilkinson finished with 70-yards on four receptions.

On the defensive side Alex Egglinger tallied 12 tackles including one for loss.  Dennis Thomas tallied nine tackles and 0.5 sacks.

The Golden Eagles will return home on Oct. 31 to face Alfred University with kickoff set for 1 p.m.  Be sure to stay up to date on all your Golden Eagle scores and awards by following @BportAthletics on Twitter and by liking the "Brockport Golden Eagles" on Facebook.
