Brockport Football: Game Eight Preview

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport football team returns home Saturday, Oct. 31 after a stretch of two road-games to face Alfred University.

The Golden Eagles fell in a close contest a week ago at SUNY Cortland, 35-21. The Golden Eagles had 348-yards of total offense, including 208 passing yards in the contest en route to 21 first downs. The contest was close through the first half, with Brockport scoring on its opening drive. After Cortland pushed ahead by a touchdown, the Golden Eagles fought back to tie the contest at 14-14 before the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles struggled to keep pace with Cortland from there on, as the Red Dragons scored a pair of TD's in the second quarter to pull ahead 28-21. The Brockport offense scored in the third quarter to make the count 35-21, but it wasn't enough to overcome Cortland.

Despite the contests results, there were several bright spots in the contest. Dan Andrews broke two long-standing Brockport records. The Rochester, N.Y. native bypassed the record set by Garet Lynch in 2008 for most points scored in a career. The former record of 224 fell in the Golden Eagle's opening drive when Andrews found the back of the end zone on a one-yard carry to put Brockport ahead 7-0. The junior finished the day with 234 career points.

Andrews also shattered the most touchdowns scored in a career record, also set by Lynch in his 2008 season. The former record of 37 was eclipsed on Saturday, as Andrews now stands with 39. Andrews is on the heels of another Lynch record for most rushing touchdown's scored with 36, while the current record of 37 still stands.  Andrews is also on pace to set a new season rushing average record. That Lynch record stands at 151.4 yards per game, with Andrews currently averaging 157.71 yards a game.

On the defensive side of the ball, Alex Egglinger continued to lead the way for Brockport. The junior picked up 12 tackles in the contest with 1 tackle for loss. Egglinger leads the Green and Gold defensive unit in tackles, wracking up 70 so far this year.

Looking ahead, the Golden Eagles prepare for a 5-2 Alfred squad, who is coming off a 42-18 win against Hartwick College. The last time the Golden Eagles faced off against the Saxons was in 2014, when the Green and Gold came away with an exciting 45-42 victory.

This week's matchup could prove to be an interesting one as each team is on opposite end of the spectrum in several categories. The Golden Eagles have tallied the most sacks in the league with 29, while the Saxons have allowed the fewest at nine sacks this season. Brockport also leads the Empire 8 in third-down defense with 28.2 percent while Alfred is second in the conference in the same category.

The Golden Eagles will look to do the same this Saturday as they go toe-to-toe with Alfred on Oct. 31 with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Be sure to stay up to date on all of your Golden Eagle scores and awards by following @BportAthletics on Twitter and by liking the "Brockport Golden Eagles" Facebook page.
