BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport football programs is gearing up for the remainder of their conference season, beginning with league foes Utica College on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles posted a statement win in week 4, downing Alfred State College 59-7. Brockport bounced back with solid performances both offensively and defensively.
Nick Vallone got things off to an exciting start when he returned the first opening kickoff in over six years for the Golden Eagles, setting the scoring tone early.
Dan Andrews continued his stellar campaign with 170-yards on the ground, with three separate trips to the end zone. The Rochester, N.Y. native also snagged two catches on the day for 28-yards. Andrews continues to lead the league with 152.3 yards per game and 19.5 points per contest. Andrews also leads the nation in the same category, scoring per game, as well as rushing touchdowns with 11.
Tarik Bennet led a stout defensive unit that held the Pioneers to just 189 total yards of offense, including -10-yards rushing. The senior picked up six tackles on the day, including three tackles for a loss of seven yards and a sack for a loss of three yards. Bennett is now just a sack away from tying the Brockport career record in the category.
The Pioneers, who enter the week with a 3-2 overall record, have a big win at their backs over then ranked No. 20 Ithaca College in overtime, 30-27. Utica scored 24 straight points, before the Bombers charged to score 24-points of their own to tie the contest late in the fourth quarter. A Utica touchdown in overtime trumped the Ithaca field goal and secured the Pioneer's second Empire 8 win.
A year ago when the two teams met, Brockport fell in a September road-game, 42-28. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., the Golden Eagles lone night game of the season.
