Box Score Sophomore goalie Conor Nowak (Amherst, NY/Eden) made a crucial last second save to preserve The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team 13-12 victory over Keuka Saturday afternoon on the campus of Brockport in the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
Brockport's Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) scored with eight seconds left in the final quarter of play to give Brockport the 13-12 lead after a Golden Eagle timeout. The ensuing faceoff was won by Keuka and the Wolfpack quickly advanced the ball into Brockport's defensive zone. Nowak made a crucial save to his left as a Wolfpack player fired a shot towards the right post just as the clock expired.
Brockport (1-4) fought back from a 10-4 deficit with 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Following Keuka's 10th goal, Brockport quickly answered back when Zach Cook (Vestal, NY/Vestal) won the faceoff, raced down into Keuka's zone passed the ball to John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) who quickly unloaded a shot past the Wolfpack goalie.
The Countryman goal triggered an offensive explosion for the Golden Eagles, who scored four goals in the span of 52 seconds. Nick Ciampi (Jordan, NY/C.W. Baker) scored the next goal for Brockport with 18 seconds left in the third.
Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) carried the Brockport momentum into the final quarter of play as he scored two quick goals for Brockport. Giudice scored a man up goal 15 seconds into the fourth quarter on an assist from Marcus Palvino (Rochester, NY/Spencerport). Giudice also scored the fourth goal in the 52 second span for Brockport on an assist from Zach Cook.
The Wolfpack scored a goal to cool the Brockport momentum momentarily and take the 11-8 lead. However the Golden Eagles scored the next three goals of the game by Clifton Jackson (Snyder, NY/Amherst), Countryman and Palvino to tie the game.
Keuka scored a goal with a little more than three minutes left in the game, but Brockport proved resilient in its efforts for its first victory of the year.
Sophomore Mark Robinson (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) scored with 41 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 12-12 before Justin Cook scored the game-winner with just eight seconds to spare in regulation.
Nowak finished the game with nine saves, earning the Golden Eagles victory. Zach Cook dominated the faceoff's for Brockport winning 17-of-24 while picking up two assists. Giudice led the Golden Eagles with four goals and Countryman chipped in three. Palvino scored twice while assisting on two others.
The Golden Eagles return to action March 18 at 4:00 pm against Elmira on the Bob Boozer Field in Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium at Brockport.
