Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Senior Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) led The College at Brockport Softball team to an early lead in the team's second game of the day driving in a run in the first inning but the Golden Eagles were unable to hold on as they lost both games Tuesday morning to Wisconsin-Superior and Wooster in Florida. Brockport dropped both nonconference games, losing 3-1 to Wisconsin-Superior and 9-5 to Wooster.
In the first game in the morning, State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Week Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) had another strong performance but came out on the losing end after Wisconsin-Superior scored all three of its unearned runs in the fourth inning. The SUNYAC award winner got off to another solid start, striking out three batters within the first three innings of play.
However a single in the bottom of the fourth got things moving for Wisconsin-Superior, as they wound up scoring three runs in the fourth on two hits, a walk and two errors.
Brockport (4-4) got one back in the sixth following a triple from Gabrielle Rivers (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) to start the inning. The next batter shortstop Nicole Atkins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) grounded out to third as Rivers scored on the play. Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) also singled on the inning but Brockport was unable to get anything else going as the Golden Eagles went three up and three down in the top of the seventh to finish the game.
In the second game against Wooster, Brockport jumped out to an early lead as Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) singled and advanced to second before Proper doubled her home two batters later to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Once again in the third inning Proper sent a Golden Eagle teammate around the bases with a double. Rivers was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a fielder's choice before Proper's second two out run-scoring double of the day.
Wooster took a 9-2 advantage in the fourth after exploding for a nine run inning. The Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead two innings later when Karleigh Eaton (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Delaney Buckley (Utica, NY/Union Notre Dame) began the sixth with two singles. Ferchen followed the two hits with a single of her own plating Eaton. Rivers grounded into a fielder's choice before Ferchen stole third base and scored on a sac-fly from Proper, trimming the Wooster lead to 9-4.
In the bottom of the seventh Brockport tacked on one more run as Buckley singled down the right field line scoring Paige Monachino (East Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) who reached base earlier in the inning on a single.
The Golden Eagles continue their Florida trip tomorrow with another set of games, facing Franklin and Marshall at 9 am and Lasell (MA) at 1 pm.
