Box Score

Junior Courtney Szczesniak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had an outstanding game for The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team racing all over the field to cause havoc to Cortland during Tuesday's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) showdown in which Brockport fell to the nationally ranked Red Dragons 19-10 on Bob Boozer Field.

Brockport (7-4, 3-2 SUNYAC) had its three game winnings streak snapped as it struggled to get consistent pressure on the No. 4 ranked Red Dragons. Szczesniak's high octane play momentarily sparked the Golden Eagles multiple times during the contest as she finished the game with a team high three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Golden Eagles were outshot 37-26 during the game but refused to be outworked for ground balls winning eight to five in that category. Brockport also converted free-position shots more efficiently than Cortland scoring three compared to the Red Dragons two as both teams had seven opportunities each.

Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each scored three goals for Brockport to help the Golden Eagles stay within striking distance. However Brockport would never come closer to the six goal deficit that it had at halftime when the score was 10-4 following two late goals by Tassone and Wall.

In the second half Tassone netted a goal following a Cortland penalty on an assist from Wall. Both Brockport and Cortland took advantage of the extra man opportunities. Late in the second half Keeley Rice (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) added a score to the Golden Eagles total to finish off the scoring for Brockport.

Goalie Remle Harr (Farmington, NY/Fairport) faced a plethora of shots on Tuesday finishing with nine saves on the contest. Defender Colleen Hathaway (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with three and also was able to scoop up two ground balls while also winning two draw controls for Brockport.

Brockport's busy week continues with a nonconference home game against St. John Fisher on Thursday at 4 pm and another home game on Saturday against SUNYAC foe Oswego at 1 pm. Be sure to keep up to date on all your Golden Eagle scores and awards by following Ellsworth on twitter @EllsworthEagle.
