Box Score 2 The College at Brockport Softball team beat State University of New York Athletic Conference opponent Oswego 8-4 and 8-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Sports Complex behind junior Brianna Harris' (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) impressive day at the plate going a combined five-for-seven with five runs batted in.
Brockport (12-12 overall, 4-4 SUNYAC) won game one of the doubleheader 8-4. The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings. Senior Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) blasted a home run over the center field fence in the first. In the third, Brockport had two runners on base with one out. Harris stepped up to the plate and ripped a triple into right field.  Harris then scored on a groundout from Proper to give Brockport a four run lead.
Oswego (3-13, 1-9) scored three runs over the next two innings to cut Brockport's lead to 5-3. The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth as senior Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) reached first on an infield single and stole second. Two straight walks loaded the bases for freshman Shelby Perry (Brockport, NY/Brockport) who launched a single to left field, scoring two runs.Â
In the sixth inning, Ferchen and Harris each hit a RBI single that gave Brockport an 8-3 lead. The Lakers scored one run in the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough as Brockport held on for an 8-4 victory.
Junior Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) earned her fifth win of the season as she tied her career-high of 13 strikeouts. Berger allowed six hits in the complete game performance. Over the course of three innings, Berger scattered three hits while allowing two runs and seven strikeouts. Ferchen finished game one three-for-four at the plate with one run batted in and three runs scored while Harris went two-for-three with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
In game two the Golden Eagles homered twice in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Freshman Karleigh Eaton (Endicott, NY/Endicott) sent her first home run of her collegiate career over the center field fence. With one runner on, Harris launched the ball over the right field fence to give Brockport a 3-0 lead. Senior Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) added another run on a double to left field that scored Proper.
To start the second inning Proper drew a walk and advanced to second on a single from Lazarro. With no outs and two runners on, junior Alyssa Balfe (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) singled through the right side to score Lazarro and Proper. Brockport scored their final two runs of the game off of a double from junior Paige Monachino (East Rochester, NY/Aquinas).
In the bottom of the fifth, Oswego threatened as three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. Junior Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) was able to get the Lakers to ground into a game-ending double play. Kibling earned her sixth win after allowing six runs over five innings pitched while striking out three.
Lazzaro finished game two a perfect three-for-three at the plate with one run batted in. Eaton went two-for-three with one run batted in and one run scored.
Brockport has two conference doubleheaders this weekend as they host Potsdam Friday at 3 pm and Plattsburgh Saturday at noon for Senior Day.
