Box Score The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team outscored State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Geneseo 4-0 in the third quarter to seal a 10-6 victory over the Knights Wednesday afternoon in Geneseo.
Brockport (8-6 overall, 3-2 SUNYAC) started the second half with a 6-4 lead and scored less than 90 seconds into the half as senior Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) took advantage of a man-up opportunity on a pass from sophomore Max Hill (Victor, NY/Victor). A few minutes later sophomore Brendan Fitzgerald (Baiting Hollow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) caused a turnover and sophomore defensemen Colin Blind (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) raced down the field and beat the goalie stick side for Brockport's eighth goal of the game.
Cook was a part of the Golden Eagles final two goals as he scored on a pass from Fitzgerald with just over six minutes remaining in the third. With a mere sixteen seconds left in the quarter Cook dodged around defenders and made a quick pass to sophomore Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) who tallied Brockport's final goal of the game.
With a 10-4 lead entering the final quarter, Geneseo (5-8, 1-4) tried to rally and was able to record six shots but a strong performance from Brockport's defense and sophomore goalie Conor Nowak (Amherst, NY/Eden) held the Knights only two goals in the second half as the Golden Eagles held on for their third conference win of the season.
The Knights scored the first two goals of the game but Brockport tallied two goals less than one minute apart to tie the game at two. Brockport's offense was persistent with five shots in less than sixty seconds. The fifth shot and first goal of the game came from senior Clifton Jackson (Snyder, NY/Amherst) as Giudice picked up an assist. Brockport scored less than a minute later as the ensuing faceoff was won by freshman Zach Cook (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Hill found Fitzgerald in front of the goal to tie the game. Geneseo answered back with a goal two minutes later to take a 3-2 lead after one quarter.
Hill found Fitzgerald again for Brockport's game-tying man-up goal just twenty two seconds into the second quarter. A few minutes later Cook scored unassisted to give Brockport its first lead of the game. Nearly ten minutes of scoreless play was broken up as Giudice scored an unassisted goal just seconds after a Brockport timeout. With thirteen seconds remaining in the half, sophomore Mark Robinson (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) found the back of the net, giving Brockport a 6-4 lead at the half.
Brockport outshot Geneseo 47-20 as seven Golden Eagles tallied a goal in the win. Cook finished with two goals and two assists while Giudice and Fitzgerald each tallied two goals and one assist. Hill recorded one goal and two assists while Blind, Robinson and Jackson each scored one goal. Brockport's defense was led by Blind who tallied four caused turnovers and junior Nick Smith (Victor, NY/Canandaigua) who picked up five ground balls.
