Box Score The College at Brockport Softball fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Oneonta 15-4 Friday afternoon in Oneonta. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed to Sunday due to inclement weather.
Brockport (16-15 overall, 8-7 SUNYAC) quickly found itself in a 12 run deficit after giving up eight hits and committing six errors in the first two innings. After Brockport's bats were silenced with only one hit in the first two innings, senior Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) singled through the left side to get runners on first and second with one out. Junior Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) stepped up to the plate and singled up the middle allowing Brockport to score its first run of the game and Ferchen to advance to third. Harris scored on the next play as senior Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) grounded out.
In the top of the fifth the Golden Eagles were able to get two runners in scoring position with one out. Freshman Lindsay Wachna (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) doubled down the left field line, scoring both runners. Brockport's early deficit proved to be too much as they fell 15-4 in five innings. Junior Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) suffered her seventh loss of the season after giving up six runs.
Brockport's road trip was extended as the second game of the doubleheader was postponed to Sunday at 11 am in Oneonta. The Golden Eagles will face New Paltz tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
