Box Score

The College at Brockport Softball offense stayed hot Sunday morning scoring seven runs but was unable to secure a win in its regular season State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) finale, as it dropped a game to Oneonta 10-7.

Delaney Buckley (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) had two hits, including a double and senior shortstop Nicole Atkins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville) had a big three run scoring double in the third inning that gave Brockport the 6-4 lead.

Brockport (18-16, 10-8 SUNYAC) clinched a playoff berth yesterday and today was solidified as the fifth seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Golden Eagles travel to the host school of Cortland and will face No. 2 seed Geneseo on Thursday at 11 am during the six-team double elimination style tournament.

Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) led the game off with a single and advanced to third base when Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) reached base on an error by the pitcher. With nobody out and runners on second and third, Erika Lazzaro's (Oswego, NY/Oswego) ground ball to the third baseman allowed both runners to advance., giving Brockport the 1-0 lead. Cleanup hitter Kelly Proper (Silver Springs, NY/Letchworth) grounded out to the shortstop as Harris' run gave the Golden Eagles a two run advantage.

The Red Dragons responded with a three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Senior pitcher Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego) evened the game back up with a leadoff home run in the second inning, the first of her Golden Eagle career.

One run scored in the bottom half of the inning gave the Red Dragons the one run lead yet again until Brockport put together a two out rally in the third. Alyssa Balfe (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) and Shelby Perry (Brockport, NY/Brockport) both reached base on singles before Kolenda walked to load the bases. Atkins jumped on the first pitch she saw and ripped a bases clearing double that put Brockport ahead by two with a 6-4 lead.

Oneonta continued to chip away at the Golden Eagle lead and took control of the game with a two run fourth inning. Brockport tacked on one more score in the fifth to bring the Golden Eagles within a single run after Buckley scored following a leadoff double.

The Green and Gold have a doubleheader  at home scheduled for tomorrow against nonconference opponent D'Youville at 3 and 5 pm.
