Box Score

Freshman Andrea Zlinsky (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) sent The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team on to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Semifinals with the game-winning goal in a 15-14 come from behind playoff victory for the Golden Eagles at Bob Boozer Field on Tuesday evening.

Brockport (10-6, 6-3 SUNYAC) advanced to face the tournament host Cortland on Friday at 12:30 pm after pulling out an edge of your seat thriller. The Golden Eagles and Oneonta traded leads six times and Brockport used a three goal swing to close out the action and defeat the Red Dragons of Oneonta.

With six minutes left, Brockport trailed by two goals with a score of 14-12. The momentum began to swing when Keeley Rice (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scored her fifth goal of the game bringing the Golden Eagles within one.

The Red Dragons were whistled for a penalty with 3:22 left on the clock and Brockport trailing 14-13. Sixteen seconds later, Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was awarded a free position shot and beat the goalie with a hard shot to knot the game up at 14-14.

The clock was winding down in regulation as Wall drove the ball deep into Oneonta territory with a chance to send the Golden Eagles onto the next round. Wall took a few steps towards the inner circle drawing the attentions of multiple Red Dragons. As the defenders pursued Wall, she unselfishly sent a pass over their heads to an open Zlinsky who caught the ball in her shooting motion immediately sending the ball past the Oneonta goalie for the game-winner.

Oneonta made a point to know where on the field Brockport's two leading scorers for the regular season were the whole game. However both Wall and Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) were able to find the back of the net two times apiece.

The Golden Eagles emphasized good ball movement and consistently rotated the ball searching for the best scoring opportunities especially when provided with the extra-man opportunities. Brockport finished two-of-three for the day on such opportunities.

The score heading into halftime was 9-8, following a last second goal from Rice to bring Brockport within one. The Red Dragons opened the scoring of the second half taking a two goal advantage.

Brockport fought back stringing three goals in a row, taking the 12-11 lead as Zlinsky scored with 13:52 remaining. Oneonta scored the next three goals to push back in front of the Golden Eagles prior to Rice initiating the final three scores that came from Brockport and the come from behind victory.

Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach) gave the Golden Eagles an advantage as she helped Brockport win more than half of the draw controls. She was able to secure six draw controls herself.

Colleen Hathaway (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) played like a senior determined to extend her final season onto the next round of the playoffs as she raced around the field scooping four ground balls and causing four turnovers while also securing two draw controls.

The No. 3 seeded Knights of Geneseo defeated Buffalo State today and advance on to play Fredonia in the other semifinal game which will also be hosted by Cortland. The winners of the semifinal round are set to square off with one another on Saturday at 1 pm unless Cortland Men's Lacrosse wins their semifinal game and hosts the SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Championship as well. If Cortland men win to host the final, the women's lacrosse final will be played at 12:00 pm.
