Brockport blanked by Cortland, 7-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest on the road on Saturday, falling to SUNY Cortland, 7-0.
 
The Golden Eagles move to 1-9 on the season and 0-3 in league play, while the Red Dragons are now 7-3 overall and have a 3-0 mark in conference.
 
Brockport fell behind early, when a Cortland shot found the back of the cage in the 7th minute for the 1-0 lead. The Red Dragons would strike again to post a 2-0 advantage by the 18-minute mark. The Green and Gold would hold their counterparts to just one more goal, at the 31st minute, to take a 3-0 deficit into the midway break.
 
In the second half, the Green and Gold would relinquish a goal in the opening three minutes to trail 4-0, but held off the Red Dragons for over 23 minutes of play. Brockport let up three straight scores to close the contest, as they fell, 7-0.
 
The Golden Eagles worked for five shots on the day, led by Christina Conkling and Julia Weyant who each had two shots. Brockport was awarded seven penalty corners on the day.
 
The Green and Gold net minders made 11 saves, with three keepers seeing action. Sarah Beam got the start and over 37 minutes of play and seven saves. Olivia Landry picked up 28 minutes in goal, with four saves, while Adriana DeDie came in goal for just under five minutes of action.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 5 when they return home to host Wells College, with play slated for 4 pm.
