ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Brockport earned two more wins on Saturday to increase their win streak to 14 and move to 24-2 on the season. Middle blocker
Brianna Richardson and setter
Noelle Poloncarz were both named to the All-Tournament team.
Game 1 vs. Trine: W, 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-22)
Brianna Richardson was a force on offense in the victory over Trine, registering 16 kills which is a new season-high for the junior middle blocker. Those 16 kills came with just two hitting errors, giving her a .560 hitting percentage for the match.
The teams traded points in the first, with Trine holding the lead for a majority of the set. With the Thunder on the verge of taking the set up 24-22, Brockport made their move. After an
Emma Stoltz kill and Trine hitting error that tied the game at 24,
Maddy Taylor came to the line and served two straight service aces to end the set, giving the Golden Eagles the win and the momentum.
The second set was a different story, as Brockport never trailed after taking the lead at the 4-3 mark. Trine was unable to stop the offensive onslaught in this contest, with 18 of the 25 Golden Eagle points coming off of kills.
The third set was tightly contested once again, forcing Brockport to use another late run to seal the victory. With the score tied at 22-22,
Sam Holdredge killed a ball from the outside off a set from
Noelle Poloncarz to give the Golden Eagles a slight edge. The senior then went to the service line and closed out the match for Brockport, ending the match with a service ace.
Following Richardson for the team-lead in kills were Stoltz and Holdredge who combined for 16.
Jamie Schlesinger and
Kelly Waters were not far behind, recording six kills apiece.
Holdredge served two aces for the Golden Eagles, which was second only to Taylor who had four to go with her four digs. Leading the defensive unit was defending SUNYAC athlete of the week
Aimee Spilman, who had another terrific outing, digging up 22 balls.
Poloncarz continues to be extremely effective distributing the ball to her hitters, as the junior dished out another 37 assists and also added eight digs, a kill and a service ace.
Game 2 vs. Utica: W, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-15)
Eleven players saw significant time during the sweep over Utica, nine of which recorded a kill. The Golden Eagles had 40 kills in total to Utica's 16.
Rachel Fiser ran the offense in this match, dishing out 31 assists while also adding four digs and three kills. Her favorite target was
DeAnna Ortiz-Whittemore, who led the squad with 13 kills, hitting .400% on the day.
Stoltz (8),
Lindsey Luce (3),
Elena Grossman (4),
Emily Flohr (2),
Karly Oliver (3), Richardson (3) and
Christa Mickol (1) provided the rest of the offense for Brockport.
Defensively, Spilman led the way again with her 11 digs, but was backed up by seven other players who recorded digs. Fiser, Ortiz-Whittemore, and Mickol backed up Spilman's performance, combing for 12 digs.
The Golden Eagles have been tough at the service line of late, and kept up that pace in this match, serving nine aces. Fiser, Grossman, and Taylor led the squad in that category, each recording two.
The volleyball team will now have a weeklong break before heading to Fredonia on Friday for the final SUNYAC Pool Play, where they hope to secure home-court advantage for the conference tournament.
