BROCKPORT, N.Y. – In a battle to the end, The College at Brockport field hockey team held on for a 3-2 win over Nazareth College on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles improve to 4-11 on the year while the Golden Flyers fall to 3-14 on the season.
Brockport got on the board early, when
Margo Tremaine scored her sixth goal of the year, putting away an
Emilee Boddery assist for the 1-0 lead at the 3:30 mark.
The Green and Gold offense continued to produce, and found the back of the cage, this time in the 17th minute when Tremaine set up
Christina Conkling who beat the Nazareth net minder for the 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagle defense stood strong, and held the Golden Flyers scoreless, taking a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Green and Gold picked up right where they left off, with
Emilee Boddery finishing a Conkling pass to post a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes of the period. Brockport saw its counterparts sneak in a pair of goals in the 44th and 56th minutes to make the count 3-2.
The Golden Eagles fought to hold strong despite several Nazareth looks, and secured the 3-2 win.
Brockport outshot their opponents by a margin of 16-10, with 10 shots on goal. The Green and Gold were also awarded more corners with a count of 8-6.
Sarah Beam picked up the win in all 70 minutes of play, making two saves in the contest.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 21 when they host Morrisville College in the SUNYAC finale. Brockport will also honor its seniors in a ceremony held prior to the start of the contest.
