BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's soccer team clinched a spot in the 2016 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs on Saturday following a 0-0 tie with SUNY Potsdam.
The Golden Eagles, who clinched the No. 6 seed in the SUNYAC, survive and advance with an 8-5-2 record on the season and are now 4-4-1 in the league while the Bears move to 9-6-2 overall and 2-5-2 in conference play.
In a hard fought contest that required two overtimes, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Some of the Green and Gold's best looks came in the opening minutes of play, when
Chelsea Stahl and
Serena Sauerwald each had shots stopped by the Bears net minder by the seventh minute.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles turned up the offensive heat towards the end of the contest, with
Lauren Moore,
Christina Leonardo and
Stefanie Drago each narrowly missing in the waning minutes of play. Brockport had a shot on goal in each of the overtime periods, but it wasn't enough to lift the Green and Gold past Potsdam, as the 0-0 tie stood.
Each team had 16 shots in the contest, with Brockport firing eight on goal. Brockport was awarded five corner kicks to the Bears one.
Catherine Eliasson saw all 110 minutes, making 10 stops on the day.
The Golden Eagles will head into post season play, with the opening round of the SUNYAC Championship tournament set for Oct. 29, when they will head to the No. 4 seed SUNY Oneonta.
