OSWEGO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team went toe-to-toe with State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foes Oswego on Friday, falling just short, 3-2.
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-10 on the year and 0-4 in the league while the Lakers move to 7-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference action.
Brockport got on the board first, when
Christina Conkling found the back of the cage on an
Abby Meagher pass to post an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. The Green and Gold advantage was short lived, as Oswego netted a pair of goals in the 21st and 26th minutes to take a 2-1 lead, which would stand through the half.
In the second period, the Lakers struck again, this time three minutes in, to post a 3-1 score. The Golden Eagle offense wasn't ready to throw in the towel, and in the 46th minute Meagher worked in a goal of her own to pull Brockport within one at 3-2. Brockport fought, with several good looks, but couldn't sneak a goal past the Oswego defense, as they fell 3-2.
The Golden Eagles battled in all categories, edging the Lakers in shots with a 11-10 margin, had six shots on goal and were awarded eight corners. Meagher and Conkling led the offense, with three and two shots on goal respectively.
Olivia Landry got the start, and saw 41 minutes of action, grabbing three saves in goal.
Sarah Beam came in for the final 29 minutes of play, making two stops.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 12 when they head to SUNY Geneseo.
