GENESEO, N.Y. – The Brockport women's soccer team took on SUNY Geneseo in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Saturday, falling 2-0.
The Golden Eagles move to 6-4-1 on the season and are 2-3 in the SUNYAC, while the Knights improve to 5-2-4 in 2016 and 3-1-1 in league play.
The Golden Eagles stepped up in what would prove to be a defensive battle, as neither team was able to work in a goal in the opening period of play. Brockport's best look came in the 13th minute when
Chelsea Stahl fired a shot that was blocked, and the 0-0 tie would hold through the half.
In the second period, the Green and Gold defense was able to hold off the Knights, until the 57th minute when Geneseo was able to get on the board. Brockport would see the Knights strike again, this time in the 72nd minute to post a 2-0 lead. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Eagles couldn't break through, ultimately falling 2-0.
"I thought that was a solid effort today against a very good Geneseo team," said head coach
Mike Idland. "The game really came down to concentration on one set piece and they were more prepared to convert their couple clear scoring chances than we were."
Brockport worked for four shots, led by three from
Kaitlyn Niedermeier, and were awarded one corner kick.
Catherine Eliasson saw all 90 minutes in goal for the Green and Gold, making nine saves on the day.
The Golden Eagles will continue their road stretch, with a game against Oswego on Oct. 14.
