Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Brockport Remains Perfect In Conference Play

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Brockport volleyball brought home two more conference wins on Saturday to move to 19-2 overall and 6-0 in the SUNYAC. They're now the sole undefeated team remaining in the conference, sitting square atop the standings.

Game 1 vs. New Paltz: W, 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-18)
The Golden Eagles came out flying in the opening match of the day in a battle of top SUNYAC teams. The straight sets victory over the Hawks gave Brockport sole possession of first-place in the conference.

The first set was as tightly contested as they come, with neither team leading by more than three points at any point. With the Golden Eagles trailing 23-21 late in the set, DeAnna Ortiz-Whittemore turned it on, killing three balls late in the game to give Brockport the 27-25 set victory.

The middle blockers provided the offense for Brockport in the second stanza, as Kelly Waters and Brianna Richardson combined for ten kills. This set was close throughout as well until the final three points when Sam Holdredge and Waters each put down balls off Noelle Poloncarz sets to give Brockport the 25-21 edge.

Jamie Schlesinger led the Eagles in set three, tallying five of her eight total kills in the set to help the team to an easy 25-18 win. The sophomore hit at a .438 clip in the three sets, which was second only to Kelly Waters who continues to be the face of consistency for Brockport. The Burnt Hills, N.Y. native had six kills on eleven attempts for a .455 hitting percentage, and now ranks in the top-10 in the country in that category.

Poloncarz distributed the ball evenly amongst her hitters to the tune of 41 assists in three sets. The junior also added a kill, six digs, and two block assists to her stat line.

Aimee Spillman embraced the libero role in this match, digging up a team-leading 24 balls to go with her three assists and two service aces. Not far behind defensively were Schlesinger and Maddy Taylor, who combined for 17 digs of their own.

Game 2 vs. Geneseo: W, 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15)
The Golden Eagles pushed their winning streak to nine with the four-set victory over Geneseo. The team has dropped only a single set in the six conference matchups they've had.

Ortiz-Whittemore continued her outstanding weekend, registering another 16 kills to lead the team. Three other Golden Eagles had double digit kills as well, including Richardson (12), Holdredge (12), and Waters (10).

Spillman increased her dig total on the day with another 21, and also added four more service aces which led the team. Poloncarz (2), Holdredge (2), and Taylor (1) all contributed service aces as well.

Richardson led the squad in the blocking category with three solo blocks and a block assist. The three solo blocks are a new season-high for the junior.

Poloncarz filled out her stat column in this outing, adding 50 assists, two kills, two block assists, and 13 digs to go with her two service aces.

Brockport has a short layover before their next contest, when they welcome Nazareth to Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym for a Senior Day matchup.
