Brockport, NY- The College at Brockport women's basketball team fell in their season opener against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to the Tigers by a score of 64-56.
Brockport (0-1) had a hard time possessing the basketball as they finished with 20 turnovers after four quarters. The Green and Gold however, were able to keep the game close with the help of their bench, which outscored that of RIT (1-0) 16-10.
Hannah Rehbaum and
Faith Welch were the center of the Golden Eagle offense in the first half as they combined for 13 points and eight rebounds. The Green and Gold went on a 10-2 run that tied the game up 23-23 in the middle of the second quarter with help from
Bailey Pratt who hit back to back jump shots before a Rehbaum three-point play tied it up.
The Golden Eagles found themselves down 46-31 with a minute left in the third quarter, but a 17-6 Brockport run led by
Emily Nestler brought the game to 52-48 with under three minutes left in regulation. Nestler led the Green and Gold in the second half with eight points and nine rebounds and Welch added another seven points.
Brockport had seven different players with five or more points with Welch leading the way with 13. Rehbaum finished the game with nine points and seven rebounds and Nestler led the Green and Gold with 12 rebounds while hitting 4-of-5 shots for eight points.
The Golden Eagles remain at home this weekend as they play on Friday at 7:30 pm in the first game of the Tip-Off Tournament begins.
