Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brockport trips against Morrisville, 75-67

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team lost a close game to Morrisville State College Saturday afternoon by a score of 75-67 in the second day of the Brockport Tip-Off Tournament.

Brockport (0-3) was unable to overcome 24 turnovers, even though they held Morrisville (2-1) to 38.6 percent shooting from the field.

In the first quarter of play the Green and Gold played it tight with four ties and three lead changes. With the help of Faith Welch and her five first-quarter points, Brockport took a 17-15 lead in the first 10 minutes.

Going into the second quarter, the Golden Eagles took a 22-15 lead after a 5-0 run, which forced a timeout by the Mustangs at 8:43. After a couple of ties, Brockport was unable to withstand a Mustangs run and fell behind 38-32 going into half-time.

Brockport's defense was played hard in the first two quarters, coming up with four blocks and four steals. Hannah Rehbaum led the Golden Eagles with nine points in the first half and Faith Welch added seven points of her own.

The Green and Gold would battle back with a 6-0 run to start the second half thanks to back-to-back threes by Schyler Laux forcing another Mustangs timeout. This didn't stop the Golden Eagles as a Rehbaum three-point play and Welch layup put Brockport up 43-38 at 7:06 in the third. The Mustangs would battle back to tie the game and soon take a 53-49 lead into the fourth quarter.

Brockport tied the game up 58-58 with 7:00 left in the fourth, but Golden Eagle turnovers led to a 17-6 Mustang run that put them ahead 75-64 with a minute remaining in regulation. The Green and Gold couldn't claw their way back in, ultimately falling, 75-67.

Rehbaum had a game-high 18 points and hit nine free throws, and was named to the Brockport Tip-Off All-Tournament Team. Laux was on fire from behind the arc, hitting five threes for 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Golden Eagles will travel to The University of Rochester on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 pm. for their first game on the road this season.
