ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team faced off against a tough No. 11 University of Rochester squad on Tuesday, falling 93-47.
The Golden Eagles move to 0-4 on the young season while the Yellowjackets improve to 4-1 on the year.
Brockport got off to a slow start, and after an opening layup from
Emily Nestler, suffered a scoring drought for nearly eight minutes.
Faith Welch broke the scoring silence by the 2:33 mark, converting on a pair of free throws, with
Schyler Laux knocking down two of her own.
Hannah Rehbaum's layup closed the scoring in the first quarter for the Green and Gold, as Brockport faced a 25-8 deficit.
In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles found success from the three-point line, as Welch connected on two separate occasions, and Laux knocked down the deep ball. The hot Green and Gold shooting wasn't enough, as they trailed 50-21 heading into the half.
In the third quarter, Rehbaum and
Lindsay Johnson teamed up for 10 points, as the Golden Eagles struggled to stifle the strong Rochester squad. In the final period of play, the Green and Gold had a strong showing of their own from the free throw line, with four different Golden Eagles connecting from the charity stripe. The Green and Gold efforts weren't enough however, as Brockport fell 93-47.
Welch led the Golden Eagles, with 15 points, shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and also picked up two steals and an assist. Rehbaum added eight points, while Laux chipped in seven.
Emily Merrill picked up nine boards to go with five points.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Dec. 2 when they open conference play against SUNY Oneonta, with tip off set for 7:30 pm.
