Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brockport falls to Oneonta, 63-46

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team fell at home on Friday in the opening game of State University of New York Athletic Conference play, losing to SUNY Oneonta by a score of 63-46.

Brockport (0-5, 0-1 SUNYAC), despite outscoring the Red Dragons in the final quarter, were unable to hold off an Oneonta (4-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) team. The Red Dragons caught fire from behind the arc, shooting 42.9 percent from the field. The Green and Gold were unable to heat up, shooting 25 percent from the floor.

The Golden Eagles got off to a bumpy start, as they fell behind 7-0 by the 8:25 mark in the first quarter. However, four points by Hannah Rehbaum and two back-to-back threes by Schyler Laux cut the deficit to 11-10 half way through the first quarter. Unfortunately it was not enough, as they would fall behind 17-10 after the first 10 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, a Bailey Pratt three would bring Brockport to within five, but cold shooting would continue to plague the Green and Gold. The Golden Eagles scored only four more points the rest of the half as they trailed 35-19 going into the break.

Laux led the Golden Eagles in scoring in the first half with nine points off three shots behind the arc. Rehbaum would chip in four points of her own along with five rebounds.

Brockport's cold shooting would continue as they were held scoreless until a layup by Faith Welch broke the streak and brought the score to 51-21 at 5:33 in the third. The Green and Gold hit three straight shots behind the arc, but it wouldn't be enough as they finished three quarters of play down 56-35.

The Golden Eagles would outscore the Red Dragons in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to 17, but they were unable to mount a big enough comeback, falling 63-46.

Laux was the team leader in points scoring 18 points off of six threes. Welch finished with 11 points and six assists, while Rehbaum posted six points and 10 boards.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Dec. 2 when they host SUNY New Paltz at 4 pm.
