Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Johnson posts double-double in 66-45 loss to New Paltz

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Lindsay Johnson grabbed the first double-double of her Brockport career on Saturday, as The College at Brockport women's basketball team fell to the reining State University of New York Athletic Conference champions, SUNY New Paltz, 66-45

The Golden Eagles fall to 0-6 on the season and have a 0-2 mark in league play while the Hawks move to 4-3 on the year and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.

Brockport found itself trailing early, as they saw the hot-shooting Hawks open the contest with an 8-0 run behind a pair of triples and a layup. Hannah Rehbaum netted the Golden Eagles first score, at the 6:18 mark, as she worked to send home a layup, pulling within six.

The Green and Gold struggled to stifle New Paltz, as they would ride an 8-0 run to close the quarter, and take a 16-2 lead into the first quarter break.

The start of the second quarter was bright for the Green and Gold, as Lindsay Johnson went right to work, putting in a layup to open the second quarter, cutting the New Paltz lead to 12.

After a run from the Hawks, the Golden Eagles began to find their rhythm, as Johnson continued to produce for the Green and Gold. Following a Bailey Pratt bucket, Johnson had three scores, and put up the buzzer beater to cut the Brockport deficit to 10, as the Green and Gold outscored the Hawks in the quarter, 16-12 and headed into the break, trailing 28-18.

At the midway point, Johnson led the Golden Eagles, nearing a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.

In the second half, Johnson continued to keep the Golden Eagles afloat, scoring eight of the first 12 Brockport points. Olivia LaBaron connected on a three from deep to cut the Green and Gold deficit to 42-33 at the end of the third.

Brockport continued to fight in the final quarter, but their efforts weren't enough to overcome New Paltz, as they eventually fell 66-45.

Johnson led all scorers with 20 points to go with 14 boards and one assist on the day. LaBaron chipped in seven points, with Rehbaum and Pratt each finishing with five, while Rehbaum added six rebounds. Faith Welch led the way in assists with four, and LaBaron adding three.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action in a non-conference matchup, as they head to William and Smith College for a Brockport double-header. The women's contest will tip off at 6 pm.
