GENEVA, N.Y. –
Hannah Rehbaum posted her first double-double of the season as The College at Brockport women's basketball team went toe-to-toe in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, falling to William Smith College, 81-73.

The Golden Eagles fall to 0-7 on the season, while the Herons move to 4-2 in 2016.

The Green and Gold outpaced their counterparts in the opening stanza, posting a 14-10 edge by the end of the quarter. Four Golden Eagles got in on the action, with
Hannah Rehbaum scoring the opening bucket, and
Faith Welch and
Lindsay Johnson knocking down a pair of jumpers in the early going for the 8-5 lead.

Welch drew a foul on a three-point attempt, and drained three straight from the charity strip to give Brockport the 14-10 edge by the end of the quarter.  The Golden Eagles saw their lead disappear in the second, when a Heron triple knotted the contest with 3:41 remaining.

Brockport saw William Smith go on a 14-6 run to close the half, taking a 38-33 lead into the break. Welch led all scorers with 13, while Rehbaum neared a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Brockport saw William Smith open the half with a three, but following a Green and Gold timeout, went to work in the paint. In a 17-3 run, the Golden Eagles picked up 10 points in the lane, and reclaimed the lead at 50-46. After two more ties in the waning minutes of the quarter, a Rehbaum layup gave the Golden Eagles a 59-58 advantage heading into the final period.

In the fourth, the Golden Eagles struggled to keep pace with the Herons. After trading leads, a Welch jumper knotted the contest a 68-68 with just over five minutes to play. Following a 7-0 run from William Smith to just under a minute to play, the Green and Gold were forced to play catch-up, and couldn't quite overcome their counterparts, falling 81-73.

Welch led the scoring efforts, posting 22 points and adding three steals. Rehbaum, who's 16 points and 13 boards notched her first double-double of 2016, added three assists in the outing. Johnson and Olivia LaBaron were the only other Golden Eagles to reach double figures, with 15 and 12 points respectively.

Brockport shot a solid 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the field, and knocked down seven three-pointers.

The Golden Eagles will return to conference play when they head north for a two game stretch. Brockport kicks off the weekend at SUNY Potsdam on Dec. 9 and visits Plattsburgh St. on Dec. 10.
