Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Brockport grounds Red Hawks, 12-9

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team opened their 2016 campaign on Saturday with a solid win over Montclair State, 12-9.

The Golden Eagles open their season with a 1-0 mark, while the Red Hawks move to 1-1 on the young season.

After a short five-minute lull, the Brockport offense was sparked by Hailey Boronczyk, who's opening goal for the Golden Eagles got things going. Makensie Schuber was the next Golden Eagle to work into the scoring column, this time off a set up from Boronczyk to post a 2-0 lead with 19:48 to play.

The Red Hawks found the back of the net at the 12 minute mark, but the goal only spurred on the Brockport offense, that saw six straight scores, with a hat-trick from Kelly Wall, and a goal from Andrea Zlinsky, Kasey Maguire and a second Schuber goal to post an 8-1 lead by the 3:23 mark.

Brockport saw their counterparts score a lone goal to close the half, as the Green and Gold would take an 8-2 advantage into the break.

The Golden Eagles came out of the half looking to continue where they left off, with a Wall to Jessica Boddery combo posting back-to-back goals, for the 10-2 edge. Boronczyk worked in a goal at the 25:47 mark, to push the Golden Eagle lead to 11-2.

Schuber netted a hat-trick herself, halting a five goal scoring streak for Montclair when she connected unassisted with 10:52 left to play. The Red Hawks would score the final two goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Golden Eagles, who locked up the 12-9 win.

Head coach Stephen Wagner's defensive unit proved to be stout, as Courtney Szczesniak led the way with four ground balls, and two caused turnovers in the contest. Ciara McKeon picked up four ground balls as well, with a caused turnover of her own.

Paige Lammes picked up the win in just under 39 minutes in goal, while snagging five saves. Sara Shaddock picked up 21 minutes as the Golden Eagles net minder, grabbing three saves.

Brockport went 15-for-18 in clears in the win, also picking up move draw controls wins, by a tally of 14-9.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, in Montclair, N.J. against Fairleigh Dickinson University with opening draw set for 12 p.m.
