MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Behind a high-scoring offense, The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team downed Fairleigh Dickinson University at Florham on Sunday, 18-10.
The Golden Eagles improve to 2-0 to start the 2016 season, while the Devils fall to 0-1.
Brockport came out firing, outscoring their counterparts 12-4 in the first half.
Ciara McKeon got things going, netting the first Brockport score under three minutes into the contest.
Jessica Boddery buried a
Kelly Wall set up less than a minute later, to push the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 advantage.
Andrea Zlinsky got in on the fun, netting a goal from a
Hailey Boronczyk feed to push Brockport out to a 3-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest.
The Devils worked in a pair of shots, but the Fairleigh scores only spurred the Brockport offense. Boddery,
Makensie Schuber, and Wall all worked in goals, with Schuber netting a pair to give the Green and Gold a 7-2 edge by the 10:18 mark.
Again, the Devils answered with a pair of goals, but they were not able to keep up with the high output of the Brockport offense. In the final six minutes of play, the Golden Eagles netted six scores. Boddery worked in a pair of goals, with Slinsky, Boronczyk and Schuber all finding the back of the net to take a 12-4 lead into the break.
The second half, the Golden Eagles slowed their pace, but only slightly. The Green and Gold held the Devils to six goals, while rattling off six of their own. Wall got the party started, scoring a pair of goals, to get the hat trick. Boronczyk also netted a pair of second half scores, for a hat trick as well.
Samantha Dooling worked her way into the scoring column, as the Golden Eagles wrapped up the 18-10 victory.
Brockport dominated in several categories, outshooting their counter parts 31-16, with 27 shots on goal. The Green and Gold went 13-14 on clears, and forced 19 Devil turnovers. Brockport scooped up 31 ground balls to their opponents 15, and were awarded nine free-position shots.
Lauren Mancini led the Brockport defense efforts, with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Schuber caused three turnovers on the day, while picking up four ground balls.
Hannah Cullen nabbed five ground balls, while McKeon picked up four draw controls.
In goal,
Sara Shaddock got the win in just under 18 minutes of play.
Sam Capobianco severed as the Golden Eagle net minder for over 42 minutes of play, grabbing three saves.
The Golden Eagles will open their home season on March 2 when they host Nazareth College, with opening draw set for 4 p.m.
