Brockport’s high-octane offense blows past Denison, 14-6

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team had a strong showing in their home opener, downing Denison University on Saturday, 14-6.
 
The Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 on the year, while the Big Red fall to 1-1 on the young season.
 
Brockport went tick for tack with their opponents for the opening 14 minutes of play, as Jessica Boddery and Makensie Schuber each netted tying goals, to make the count 2-2 early in the contest.
 
The Green and Gold offense was awakened and exploded, as the Golden Eagles scored six unanswered over the next three minutes to post a 6-2 lead by the 14:07 mark. Schuber and Boddery got things started, with Keeley Rice burying a pair and Kelly Wall working in a shot.
 
Brockport saw Denison score a goal with 8:36 remaining in the half, but the Golden Eagles' Wall and Boronczyk each netted a score before the mid way point to make the count 8-3 at the break.
 
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the second half, netting four straight scores. Wall picked up the hat-trick in the opening three minutes of the half. Boronczyk followed suit, firing in a shot less than a minute later. Ciara McKeon and Schuber each buried unassisted goals, to push the Golden Eagles ahead 11-3.
 
Brockport worked in a pair of shots to close the contest, with Boronczyk and Rice each finding the back of the cage. Denison scored three goals over the final minutes of play to make the final count, 14-6.
 
The Golden Eagles dominated their opponents in several areas of the field. Brockport fired off 43 shots to their counterparts 15, forced 20 Big Red turnovers, and picked up more ground balls by a tally of 32-15. The Green and Gold also won 13 draws on the day, and earned four free position shots.
 
Boronczyk, Wall and Rice led the way in scoring, with three goals a piece. Schuber and Boddery each netted two, with McKeon picking up a goal. Wall also dished out two assists, with Boddery and Meg LeGro getting in on the action with an assist each.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, Courtney Szczesniak picked up six ground balls and had a caused turnover in the outing. Hannah Cullen scooped up five ground balls, with Lauren Mancini and Cassandra Minerd each snagging four. Andrea Zlinsky also had two caused turnovers on the day.
 
Goalkeeper Sara Shaddock picked up all 60 minutes in goal for the Golden Eagles, where she grabbed seven saves.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 9 when they head to Rochester Institute of Technology.
