High-powered Brockport offense glides past Benedictine, 20-6

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – A high-octane offense led The College at Brockport past Benedictine University on Saturday by a score of 20-6.
 
The Golden Eagles improve to 6-1 on the year while handing the Eagles their second loss of the season as they fall to 6-2.
 
Head coach Ben Wineburg's squad was led by Liam Cannon who fired off six goals on the day. John Countryman wasn't far behind, as the senior netted five scores. Casey Cleary and Jake Recor each worked in a pair of goals, with Colton Oliver, Jake Giudice, Mark Robinson, Zack Cook and Marcus Palvino each finding the back of the cage.
 
The offense didn't take long to heat up, as the Green and Gold worked in six goals in the opening period to post a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes of play. In the second quarter, Benedictine opened the scoring, and saw three goals in the quarter. The Golden Eagles didn't let up on the offensive end, with five goals of their own in the period to post an 11-3 lead heading into the break.
 
The second half of action didn't slow down Brockport, as the Golden Eagles came out of the halftime and netted five straight scores. Benedictine worked in a lone goal in the third, but the Green and Gold posted the final say in the period with a goal to close the quarter.
 
The fourth quarter saw three Golden Eagle scores to one Benedictine goal, with the Green and Gold wrapping up the 20-6 win.
 
The Golden Eagles outmatched the Eagles in several categories including shots (62-21), shots on goal (36-11), ground balls (17-11) and faceoff's (23-6). The Golden Eagles had a solid day, going 20-for-22 in clear attempts and forcing 15 Benedictine turnovers.
 
Steven Gurin led the defense with three caused turnovers, while a handful of Golden Eagles had one caused turnover each. Countryman picked up three ground balls, with Gurin, Recor, and Oliver each scooping up two.
 
The Green and Gold showed some unselfish play, with 16 assists on their 20 goals. Giudice and Cannon each handed out four assists, with Brendan Fitzgerald setting up three of his teammates.
 
Dallas Meyers picked up 45 minutes in the win, while grabbing three saves. Trey Love saw over 10 minutes of action with a pair of saves while John Clancy picked up just under five minutes of action.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 30 when they hit the road, and take on Alfred State.
