Brockport downs St. John Fisher, 16-9

EAST ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A well balanced scoring attack helped lead The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team past intercity rivals St. John Fisher College on Tuesday, 16-9.
 
The Golden Eagles improve to 2-1 on the year while the Green and Gold hand the Cardinals their first loss of the year, at 2-1.
 
The Green and Gold was led in scoring by Marucs Palvino, who netted four goals. Jake Giudice and John Countryman each netted a hat-trick, Mark Robinson and Liam Cannon each added a pair of scores, with Colton Oliver and Brendan Fitzgerald finding the back of the cage once. Oliver, Max Hill and Fitzgerald each added a pair of assists with Casey Cleary and Giudice working into the assist column with one each.
 
The Green and Gold got off to a steady start, taking a 3-1 lead advantage after the first period. Again, a closely contested second quarter saw the Golden Eagles come out on top in the scoring column, burying five goals to the Cardinals 4, to take an 8-5 lead into the break.
 
Brockport continued their dominance in the second half, with a 3-2 edge in the third period. In the final quarter of play, the Golden Eagles had a 5-2 advantage to take the 16-9 win.
 
The Golden Eagles edged their counterparts in several categories, with a 43-36 edge in the shots column. The Golden Eagles forced 24 Cardinal turnovers, and picked up 32 ground balls.
 
On the defensive side, Conor Nowak led the Golden Eagles in the cage to the win, picking up eight saves in 60 minutes of play. Steven Gurin had three caused turnovers, with Colin Blind and Fitzgerald each adding two. Gurin also scooped five ground balls.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 12 at Keuka College.
