BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 11 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team downed SUNY New Paltz in decisive fashion on Saturday in State University of New York Athletic Conference play, 23-2.
The Golden Eagles improve to 12-1 on the year and 5-1 in league play while the Hawks fall to 3-10 on the year and 0-5 in conference action.
Head coach
Stephen Wagner and the Golden Eagles celebrated senior day with the big win, with several seniors working into the scoring column.
Kelly Wall led all scorers with five goals, with
Keeley Rice netting four.
Makensie Schuber,
Peyton Pallar,
Jessica Boddery and
Hailey Boronczyk each tabbed two scores while
Hannah Cullen,
Meg LeGro,
Taylor Thomas and
Ciara McKeon each finished with a goal apiece.
Brockport got things started, rushing out to a 7-0 lead by the 22-minute mark. After a New Palz goal, the Green and Gold posted a pair of scores to lead 9-1 with 16:51 remaining in the first.
The Hawks found the back of the cage once more, but the Green and Gold closed out the half with five straight scores to take a 14-2 lead into the halftime break.
The second half was all Green and Gold, as Brockport netted nine unanswered for the final count of 23-2.
On offense, Rice dished four assists for eight points on the day, while Wall set up two Brockport goals for seven points.
One the defensive end,
Cassandra Minerd picked up a pair of caused turnovers, while
Kristen Quigley added one in the same category.
Courtney Szczesniak led the way in ground balls with three while Minerd, Rive, Boronczyk, McKeon and LeGro each had two GBs.
Sara Shaddock picked up the win in 30 minutes of play while making two saves.
Paige Lammes saw 30 minutes of action, also grabbing three saves as the Brockport new minder.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action at home on April 26 when they host SUNY Geneseo in the final home game of the regular season.
