No. 12 Brockport opens SUNYAC with 18-10 win against Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The No. 12 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team opened State University of New York Athletic Conference play on at Fredonia on Tuesday, led by five Makensie Schuber goals in an 18-10 win.
 
The Golden Eagles stay unbeaten, improving to a record of 8-0 on the year and begin SUNYAC play with a 1-0 mark while the Blue Devils fall to 4-6 and 0-2 in conference action.
 
The Green and Gold got off to a hot start with five straight goals to post a 5-0 lead down to the 16:12 mark. Schuber was the first Golden Eagle to score, followed by a Kelly Wall goal. Samantha Dooling worked in a shot off a Schuber set up, with Jessica Boddery then using a Dooling assist for the Green and Gold's fifth goal.
 
Brockport saw the Blue Devils break their scoring silence just under 16 minutes, but Hannah Cullen was able to answer, with another Dooling set up, as the Golden Eagles posted a 6-1 lead.
 
After three Fredonia scores, Brockport scored the final two goals of the half, with Schuber and Dooling each working in a goal. The Golden Eagles posted an 8-4 lead heading into the break.
 
After the Blue Devils opened the second half with three goals, the Green and Gold offense went on a scoring frenzy. The Golden Eagles scored eight straight down to the seven-minute mark. Wall posted a hat-trick, with Schuber adding a pair of goals, and Cullen, Andrea Zlinsky, and Keeley Rice each chipped in a goal each for the 16-7 lead.
 
Despite a pair of Fredonia scores, Rice posted a pair of her own in the final two minutes to push the Golden Eagles to their 18-goal mark. A Blue Devil score to close the contest made the final count 18-10.
 
While the Golden Eagles were even with Fredonia in draws (15-15), they were narrowly edged in ground balls (22-20). However Brockport came up big in several other categories, with a 37-19 edge in shots, and a perfect 15-of-15 in clear attempts.
 
Wall went to work on both ends, picking up two caused turnovers on the day to go with a pair of ground balls. Schuber also scooped up four GB's. with Szczesniak, and Cassandra Minerd each snagging two.
 
Sara Shaddock picked up the win in over 35 minutes of play, getting one stop, three ground balls and posting her eighth win on the season. Paige Lammes saw just under 24 minutes in the cage, and picked up five saves and a pair of ground balls.
 
The Golden Eagles will continue their road streak on April 9 when they take on Oneonta at 12 p.m.
