No. 12 Brockport powers past Oneonta, 16-2

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The No. 12 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team posted a strong win in State University of New York Athletic Conference play on Saturday, downing Oneonta, 16-2.

The Golden Eagles improve to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while the Red Dragons fall to 3-7 in 2016 and 0-2 in league action.

Brockport got off to a hot start, with back-to-back goals for an early 2-0 lead. Keeley Rice got things started, burying a Samantha Dooling pass less than four minutes into play. Dooling followed up her assist with a free position goal less than 10 seconds later to give the Green and Gold the 2-0 edge.

After an Oneonta goal, the Golden Eagles netted four straight scores, with a Makensie Schuber goal to start things off. Rice, Kelly Wall and Jessica Boddery all worked into the scoring column over the nearly eight minute stretch.

The Golden Eagles would see one more Red Dragon goal on the half, but closed the first period with four straight scores. Schuber, Wall, Boddery and Dooling each netted their second goals of the contest to post a strong close to the half, and take a 10-2 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Golden Eagle dominance continued as they held Oneonta scoreless. Head coach Stephen Wagner's squad netted six straight in the second half, with Hannah Cullen getting the offense going at the 19:22 mark. Wall buried a pair, with Schuber, Cullen and Andrea Zlinsky each working in goals to post the 16-2 win.

The Golden Eagles outmatched their opponents in several categories, including shots (33-6), free position shots (8-1), ground balls (14-6) and draws (13-7). The Green and Gold were a perfect 15-of-15 in clears and forced 23 Red Dragon turnovers.

Courtney Szczesniak led the defense with three caused turnovers while Lauren Mancini, Rice and Cassandra Minerd forced two each. Mancini, Rice and Minerd also scooped up two ground balls apiece on the day.

Sara Shaddock got the start and the win, with 30 minutes of action. Paige Lammes picked up 30 minutes as the Green and Gold net minder, with two stops on the day.
